The Bible teaches that money is meant to be used for fun (Ecclesiastes 5:18-19) in addition to other things, but it can’t truly satisfy us (Ecclesiastes 5:10) and so should be put to good use in service to God and others (Matthew 13:44, 25:14, 1 Timothy 6:17-18) rather than primarily on ourselves. We’re also instructed to stay out of debt, so that the only person we are subjected to is God. As a hardcore geek, this is challenging teaching! Most geek hobbies involve repeated investment and sometimes cost a lot! All the cool stuff marketed to us nerds usually comes with a price tag.
