In Search Of Truth, Genesis 22:1-18

The final passage we look at in Genesis is one of the most unusual. God had previously promised Abraham that his son Isaac would be his heir and that Abraham's countless descendants would come from Isaac. Yet God now asks Abraham to kill Isaac. This memorable story is a pivotal moment in God's interaction with humanity. It has incredible significance and foreshadows God the Father's sacrifice of God the Son, Jesus.

Iron Sky (Movie Review)

Review by "Ken From Honolulu"

(REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Made in 2012

Directed by Timo Vuorensola

Starring:
Julia Dietze as Renate Richter
Christopher Kirby as James Washington
Gotz Otto as Klaus Adler
Udo Kier as Wolfgang Kortzfleisch

Synopsis:

In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers.

Review:

I enjoy independent movies, and this is an independent movie. Independent movie makers make movies that they want. Not the formula movies the big studios think will sell. If you are looking for a campy movie, then this is not the movie for you. These people tried to make a serious movie and the acting is good and not over the top.

The filming was done mostly in green screen. But everything within a 20 foot radius of the actors is an actual physical object they are interacting with. You can tell it’s green screen but it doesn’t look that bad.

For the storyline itself you have to suspend disbelief. The theme behind the movie is really interesting. What they are saying is, if you follow blindly, then you are going to be duped. That is what this movie is about.

The US President is Sara Palin and they picked a pretty good look-alike. She has a campaign manager that is supposed to be like Carl Rove: do whatever it takes to get your person elected.

There are some pretty funny scenes in the movie. For example, the Nazis capture a black guy and turn him white, giving him long blond hair. (Of course he looks just like a black guy that has been bleached.) They go to earth, and he doesn’t realize he’s been turned white. He is wearing a Nazi uniform with a swastika. He goes up to a group of gang bangers who are playing basketball. He is trying to get info from them. Pretty soon they just pull out their guns and start shooting. He starts asking “what is going on?” Then he looks at his hands and starts screaming.

The idea of the movie is, there are slogans that people use to get you to follow their plans. And if you follow them you’ll be duped. That’s what happened to the main female character. She believed the Nazi’s were going to help the world. Of course she is isolated on the moon, so she doesn’t know what they did, except for what they told her. So she has no idea of the terror they will bring with them.

There is one guy who wants to be the dictator so he kills the current dictator. There is the climatic battle between the Nazis and the Americans, because they attacked New York. What the Nazis are using is space ships powered by rockets, or jets. They don’t react as you would think a flying saucer would, going any direction they wanted.

Of course they are using 1940-1950’s technology. A scientist points to this gigantic machine and says this is our computer. The black guy pulls out his smart phone and says, let me show you mine.

There is no real sex or nudity. There is very little profanity.

If you are looking for a campy film, then give this a pass. But if you are looking for a film that has a message, then this is the movie for you.

Quality score: 8

Relevance score: 9.5

Iron Sky Review and Mage Knight Board Game Review (SBU Podcast)

Mage Knight Board Game and Iron Sky Reviews!

In Search Of Truth, Genesis 15:7-21

There are some unusual things being described in this passage. Despite taking more time than usual to do research, I still wasn't able to find answers to all of my questions. Even so, there are a number of helpful things I've learned that may shed light on what we read here.

Jack The Giant Slayer and Oz The Great And Powerful Reviews (SBU Podcast)

A double dose of fantasy movie reviews featuring Jack The Giant Slayer and Oz The Great And Powerful! Which one scratches that fantasy geek itch and which one fails to deliver? Plus, trusting God is such a basic foundation of biblical faith that we take it for granted, but to God it means everything as we'll see looking at the life of Abram.

Oz The Great And Powerful (Movie Review)

Like most people, I grew up watching "The Wizard Of Oz", singing the Munchkin songs and being scared of the Wicked Witch Of The West. I also read most of the original Frank Baum books when I was younger, though my memories of them are pretty hazy.

In Search Of Truth, Genesis 15:1-6

In chapter 14, a number of local kings went to war with each other. In the aftermath, Abram's nephew Lot was taken captive from the city of Sodom as the victors claimed the spoils of war.

Jack The Giant Slayer (Movie Review)

Director Bryan Singer is well known for directing the fantastic geek-genre movies X-men and X-2. Though he took a misstep with Superman Returns, despite some wonderful things he brought to the iconic character. Now he returns to geek genre film making with Jack The Giant Slayer, which opened to a weak box office and may soon make a quiet exit from theaters if Oz The Great And Powerful successfully overshadows it.
