Solomon Kane (Movie Review)

Solomon Kane is a "witch hunter" living in a pseudo-fantasy version of the 16th century. Imagined by Conan creator Robert E. Howard, Solomon is likewise a dark character in a dark world, and fans of dark fantasy waited with anticipation for the release of this movie. Fans in the U.S. have waited even longer.

Old Testament Law And Modern Christians, Part 3

Last time we looked at when and why the Old Testament law became obsolete, and its purpose and application both before and after the ministry of Christ. As we finish up today we'll clarify our current relationship to Old Testament law and determine where it is we should look for instruction and inspiration for loving God and others today.

The Wolverine Review and ComicCon 2013 (SBU Podcast)

A review of "The Wolverine", a retro review of "The Princess Bride" and discussion of ComicCon 2013! Plus, part two of our look at The Old Testament Law and whether or not it is binding to us today.

The Wolverine (Movie Review)

I sat down to watch The Wolverine not expecting a great movie. The trailers I had seen featured action sequences obviously filmed in front of green screen, giving the impression that this movie didn't have the budget it needed to tell a truly great superhero story. (Okay, Wolverine/Logan is an anti-hero, but you know what I mean.) Still, I knew this movie was highly anticipated by many geeks, so I carved out the time and sat in the theater to see what would come of this second attempt at a Wolverine solo movie. I was surprised by what I got. In some ways good, and in some ways bad.

Marathon Song Work

Unlike previous entries in the Spirit Blade Trilogy, I find myself focusing right now on completing work on all of the songs at once. In the past, the songs have come peppered throughout the overall post-production phase, often only becoming a main focus of my attention when I naturally reach them in the process of chronologically mixing scenes. But this time I'm surprising myself by finding both the motivation and creative inspiration to work on them one after the other, here at the very beginning of the post-production phase.

In Search Of Truth, Old Testament Law and Modern Christians, Part 2

In part 1 I made the case that the nation of Israel was the intended recipient of Old testament Law, and then presented an argument against dividing the law into "moral" and "ceremonial" categories. Then we saw that the "old covenant", which includes the Old Testament Law, has become obsolete, replaced by Christ with something better.

New Commentary Available Now!

As you may have noticed it's been quite awhile (October) since I last released a new segment of the commentary for Spirit Blade: Special Edition. And while no one has complained in the absence of new content, I figured I needed to eventually get around to finishing off the commentary. (The prep work for this commentary takes about twice as long as usual.

"The Maze" Reviews and Star Trek Summer Of Free (SBU Podcast)

We continue to celebrate The Summer Of Free with a Star trek theme! Plus, Two persepctives and Two Reviews of the Christian fantasy novel, The Maze by Jason Brannon. Then, we begin a three part investigation of The Old Testament Law (including The 10 Commandments!) and what relevance it may or may not have for us as Christians today. And finally some announcements about the future of Christian Geek Central!

The Maze, By Jason Brannon (Two Perspectives, Two Reviews)

Review #1 By "Professor Alan"
(A copy of the work was provided by the publisher for this review)

Jamie Burroughs seems like a thoroughly decent man, with a wife (Amy) and son (Peter). But when he runs into an old girlfriend (Karen) one day at lunch, he quickly finds himself wandering down dark paths of temptation. On the verge of committing adultery with Karen, an angel-faced man snatches him away into a dark labyrinth. This maze, created by angels and demons, is constructed around Jamie's personal sins and weaknesses. He must escape to save not just his own life, but those of Amy & Peter, as well.

In Search Of Truth: Old Testament Law and Modern Christians, Part 1

In the coming chapters that we look at in Exodus, we're going to examine the laws that God gave to the Israelites, which laid a foundation for how they were to live their lives. The first formal laws given to Israel are in chapter 20, and are commonly called "The Ten Commandments". From there, God's laws for Israel become more detailed and exhaustive.

The Future Of Christian Geek Central

Toward the end of June I did some thinking about the future of Spirit Blade Productions and Christian Geek Central in specific. I settled on some conclusions that, while not entirely new ideas to me, were still considerable game-changers regarding how Christian Geek Central will move forward.

"Off Grid" Date Correction

Just a quick correction. I realized that in my post about being off-grid I said I would be out until July 8th, which is actually one week short. I will be out until July 16th. Sorry for the mix up on my part. See you next week!
